Getting Started with Elementor: A Beginner's Guide to Building in WordPress

How-To & Resources
how-to

If you manage or are building a WordPress website, Elementor is one of the most powerful tools available — and one of the most underutilized. Most people use about 20% of what it can do. This walkthrough gives you the foundation to use it properly from the start.

What Is Elementor?

Elementor is a visual drag-and-drop page builder for WordPress. Instead of writing code or wrestling with the default WordPress block editor, you build pages visually — dragging sections, columns, widgets, and content blocks exactly where you want them. Elementor Pro extends this with advanced widgets, theme building, popup builder, and form creation. It’s what powers all ARION-managed client websites at Intelligent Analytics.

What You’ll Learn in This Video

Darrel Wilson’s beginner tutorial covers everything you need to get started with confidence:

  • Navigating the Elementor editor interface
  • Understanding sections, columns, and widgets
  • Adding and styling text, images, buttons, and dividers
  • Working with the Flexbox Container system (the current standard as of 2025)
  • Saving templates and reusing sections
  • Publishing and previewing pages
  • Mobile responsiveness — switching between desktop, tablet, and mobile views

Key Things to Know Before You Start

  • Use Flexbox Containers — the old Sections/Columns system still works but Flexbox is the current standard. Enable it under Elementor → Settings → Experiments → Flexbox Container.
  • Always preview on mobile — use the device switcher at the bottom of the editor before publishing. What looks great on desktop often needs adjustment on mobile.
  • Save your work frequently — Elementor has auto-save but use the manual Save button regularly during a session.
  • Global Colors and Fonts — set these in Site Settings before building pages. Changing them later updates your entire site automatically.
  • Templates are your best friend — save any section you’ll reuse (CTAs, testimonials, contact forms) as a template to drop in anywhere.
